Powell Chapel is a United Methodist Church filled with followers of Jesus who exist to glorify God and make more committed followers of Jesus. We are a family who cares deeply about prayer and serving our growing community. We have a deep passion for faith, worship, and the healing of Jesus. We are committed to being authentic which means we are not always perfect in our ability to follow Jesus, but we strive to be. We accept you for who you are and welcome you to come and worship with us.
We strive to be a congregation that embodies God’s absolute love and hospitality, proclaiming Jesus as our savior and as our model of the ultimate embodiment of God’s love. Our congregation is made up of people from all backgrounds, united by a shared faith and a desire to make the world a better place. We believe that everyone has something to offer, and that by working together, we can achieve great things.
Powell chapel has a rich history. The church was established in 1850 in a log building and named in honor of its first minister, Rev. William Powell. A wooden structure was built in 1882 and covered with brick in 1957. Other remolding has followed in later years which included the building of the fellowship hall in 1993. Through the dedication of our church family, prayer, the financial donations of many, and the grace of our great God, we continue to serve our community and seek to bring the message of God's love in making disciples for Jesus Christ and for the transformation of the world.
As a Lighthouse Congregation, we welcome anyone whose church has closed or disaffiliated or has been church hurt. If you find yourself in these circumstances, we want you to know that we care and will be there for you during this difficult time. Whether you are an individual or a group of people who have become displaced or churchless because of church hurt, closing or disaffiliation, we are committed to providing you with a haven of peace and grace without any pressure to join or become involved.
We are proud to be a congregation with open hearts, open minds, and open doors. We believe that all persons are of sacred worth and dignity as part of God’s good creation. We welcome all persons into the full life and ministry of our congregation, regardless of race, culture, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, family, or socioeconomic status, physical or mental ability, or faith history.
At Powell Chapel United Methodist Church, we believe in the importance of compassion, kindness, and respect. We strive to embody these principles in everything we do, and we encourage others to do the same. We believe that by treating others with love and understanding, we can create a better world for all.
